An important component of Native American Music is using dance to express the feelings of the music. Frequently, bells or shakers, or sticks are either held or attached to dress to add to the music and the dance.

Instruments used by the Gullah Culture
Traditional West African drums are made from a hollowed-out log with the skin of a goat. Bells of all shapes and sizes are played with sticks. Rattles are made from gourds, baskets, or shells.
The banjar, was brought from West Africa to the barrier islands. What instrument do you think it is most like today?
